In Mr.Licata’s English class the learning objectives are to communicate efficiently and to be able to write proficiently. The project that I am submitting as an artifact for Mr. Licata’s English contains the following learning objectives : worked as a team to complete a project & demonstrate the oral presentation skills: make eye contact, speak at a good volume, and use clear pronunciation when speaking. Mr.Licata put us in teams & gave each team a role either prosecution or defence. I had to work with my team because we each had to say a part in the trial. We divided the work, we brainstormed ideas & helped each other out. In my opinion I think I did really good working with my group that is why I say that I demonstrated “working as a team to complete a project”. I also demonstrate the oral presentation skills: make eye contact, speak at a good volume, and use clear pronunciation when speaking. When we presented the case in front of the class & the jury I tried my best to make eye contact with the jury and to show emotion when speaking. The jury gave me good feedback on a paper & I managed to get a 5 on the template which is good.
We read a book called Monster which is about a boy who is in trial & they are obviously trying to figure out if he's guilty or not. Mr. Licata put us in groups and gave us roles, either prosecution or defence. Our team was prosecution we divided the work & decided who was going to do the introduction, middle and the closing. This assignment required me to work with a group and be a team player. I also had to find good evidence and practice saying my paragraph out loud. When I started this project I first made sure to go back to the book and take notes on important pages that will help me. I typed it out later. The hardest part for me was practicing saying it out loud because i had to show that I achieved the learning objective. The learning objective was to communicate efficiently. In order to achieve this I had to make sure to show emotion when speaking and to follow a good pace. While doing this project I realized that this helped me grow when working with groups. It made me more comfortable knowing I had other people help me and split up the work. This tells me about myself that I could go a great work when working with others.
The Two School-Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are thinking critically and creatively and a self directed learner who communicated effectively.I have demonstrated the first SLO, thinking critically and effectively in this project by making sure I listed the main points in order. I also tried to list very important things that would make the jury have second thoughts about whether Steve was guilty. This is important because once again this is preparing me for the future incase I do choose to be a lawyer, but you don't only use this skill to be a lawyer. There are many other jobs you can think critically and creatively. I demonstrated the next SLO, a self directed learner who communicated effectively by showing emotion in my words when I presented my part of the case. I made sure to pronounce words that had a lot of meaning in a different way. This is important because this is part of the learning objectives. It is helping me achieve it and become a better communicator. The SLO I think i could’ve improved was applying technological skills for the 21st century. I could have made a powerpoint with the main ideas of my part of the case. It could've made it seem more professional
One thing I would have changed if I had a chance to do this project over again would be my presentation. I was nervous and I felt like I wasn't taking my time to speak because I just wanted to get it over with. I was stuttering because I was nervous. Besides that, I wouldn’t change anything because I think I did a good job.One goal I would like to set up for myself for my next project is to get out of my comfort zone because in this project i picked to say the introduction because I just had to summarize the events. I felt like I couldn't do the middle part which was to go into deep detail and explain everything good.Overall this project was beneficial to my learning in English because it helped me communicate effectively in presentations. I am thinking about becoming a lawyer in the future and this project was a good practice. I know it wasn’t a real trial and i know that real trials are much more intense and hard. This project is making me go back and have second thoughts about becoming a lawyer.
